Patch Panels
The housing that encompasses cable connections is called a patch panel. In this patch panel a patch cable, which is a short cable, is plugged into the front at the same time as the back holds the connection of a permanent cable, which is a long cable. These panels are used to take the place of expensive switching equipment and resemble switchboards.
These devices are used in a variety of telecommunications connections. Patch panels can be used for data, telephone, video, and audio functions. The cables in this mechanism communicate signals from one cable to another and are able to keep the data or signal being transmitted without being lost.
