Network switches are computer networking devices that are used to connect segments of a network. The switch is able to process the data that is being transferred throughout the network and direct it using a data link layer.

These switches are a big part of Ethernet LAN’s, local are networks and have ports of different speeds. Operating at the data link layer of an OSI model, network switches operate at different OSI layers or can operate at a numerous amount of layers and is then referred to as a multilayer switch.
