Surge Protectors: What to Look For When Purchasing One

Filed under: Surge Protectors — admin @ 3:07 pm

When your computer and other forms of electrical equipment are important to how you run your day to day office or home business you want to make sure that they are protected. Surge protectors are devices that can be used with your essential electrical equipment to make sure that it is guarded against power surges and other fluctuations that can cause devastation.

When purchasing a surge protector there are a few things that buyers should keep in mind. First you should make sure that the surge protector that you are thinking of purchasing is actually a surge protector. Surge protectors are similar in appearance to power strips so you should make sure that you did not pick up a power strip. You should also evade trying to buy a cheaper surge protector and just stick with the one that is going to get the job done and protect your computer from power surges. Also, remember to make sure that your surge protector offers insurance because if it does not protect your computer and ends up ruining your equipment you want to make sure that it is protected by means of insurance.

Surge Protectors

Filed under: Surge Protectors — admin @ 4:19 pm

A surge protector is an electrical contrivance that is used to protect electrical equipment from power surges or voltage spikes. A power surge is able to increase the electrical energy of an electrical device so that it goes above the allocated level of the flow of electricity. If power goes above the allotted level then the surge protector is there to foil the power surge from annihilating your computer or other electrical devices.

If there is a voltage spike, which is usually shorter than power surge, the surge protector will short to ground voltage above a secure limit. These devices are also sometimes called suppressors. Although a surge protector may often have multiple outlets it is not the same as a power strip, although some power strips do encompass surge protection.
